REQUIRED PAPERWORK
To participate in interscholastic sports, students must complete all required PIAA paperwork. All forms must be submitted electronically through PowerSchool. For full instructions, please visit the Participation Paperwork tab above.
ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for interscholastic athletic competition, a student must pursue a curriculum defined and approved by the principal as a full-time curriculum. Where required, this curriculum or its equivalent must be approved by, and conform to, the regulations of the State Board of Education and the Pennsylvania School Code, as well as any local policies established by the local school board. The student must be passing at least four full-credit subjects, or the equivalent. Eligibility shall be cumulative from the beginning of the grading period, shall be reported on a weekly basis, and shall be filed in the principal’s office.
In cases where a student’s cumulative work from the beginning of the grading period does not, as of any Friday, meet the standards provided for in this section, they shall be ineligible from the immediately following Sunday through the Saturday immediately following the next Friday as of which their cumulative work from the beginning of the grading period meets the standards provided for in this section. Where a school is closed on a Friday for any reason, the principal may, at their election, determine whether the student, as of that day, meets the standards provided for in this section.
In order to be eligible for interscholastic athletics, a student must have passed at least four full-credit subjects or the equivalent during the previous grading period. Conestoga students who fail two or more major subjects (those subjects that meet every day) will be declared ineligible for interscholastic athletics for fifteen (15) school days. Back work may be made up, providing it is in accordance with the regular rules of the school.

NAME, IMAGE, AND LIKENESS (NIL)
As you may be aware, on December 7, 2022, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) passed a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) amendment to its bylaws, Article II, Section 3(J), which permits your student-athlete/you to receive consideration for the use of your student-athlete’s/your name, image and likeness, and more specifically, the value that your student-athlete/you may bring to a particular business, service, activity, etc.
While this amendment provides new opportunities for your student-athlete/you, it also places specific prohibitions on the type of NIL engagements that you may agree to, and failure to comply with the requirements below could result in your student-athlete’s/your forfeiture of amateur status, and thereby, the ability to compete in interscholastic events on behalf of the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District. Below is a list of NIL parameters that have been established by the PIAA:
- Your student-athlete’s/Your acceptance of consideration (both monetary and “in-kind,” which includes, but is not limited to, free or discounted equipment, clothing, or training sessions, etc.) may not be contingent on enrollment in or transfer to a particular PIAA school;
- When engaging in NIL appearances, social media posts, advertisements and the like, your student-athlete/you may not wear clothing or items referencing the: PIAA, PIAA District I, Central Athletic League, Tredyffrin/Easttown School District or any District schools, your student-athlete’s/your team name, team nickname, team uniforms or related clothing, team or school logos, or terms which your student-athlete’s/your team name is commonly referred to (for example, filming an NIL advertisement while wearing a sweatshirt that says “Stoga Athletics”);
- Your student-athlete/You may not make NIL promotions or endorsements during team/school activities;
- Your student-athlete/you may not wear apparel or display a logo, insignia, or identifying mark of an NIL partner during school/team athletic activities unless it is part of the standard school uniform for that sport;
Your student-athlete/you may not engage in any NIL activities involving, displaying, or endorsing the following categories of products and services:
- Adult entertainment products and services;
- Alcohol products;
- Casinos and gambling, including sports betting, the lottery, and betting in connection with video games, on-line games, and mobile devices;
- Tobacco and electronic smoking products and devices;
- Opioids and prescription pharmaceuticals;
- Controlled dangerous substances;
- Weapons, firearms, and ammunition.
- Your student-athlete/you must provide a copy of any NIL agreement to their school’s athletic director prior to signing so the terms can be reviewed for compliance.

PARENT/COACH COMMUNICATION
As your child becomes involved in the athletic programs at Conestoga High School, he/she will participate in some of the most rewarding moments of his/her high school career. The memories and friendships they create will last a lifetime.
Modeling behavior is critical in the development of adolescents. Conestoga athletes play by the rules and respect their sport as well as their opponent. The expectation is that Conestoga athletes strive for individual excellence in a team setting while exhibiting the highest level of sportsmanship. The best people to exemplify these qualities are the coaches and parents.
Parent/Coach Relationship
Being a parent isn’t always easy! Being a coach isn’t always easy! Frequently, the one common factor is your son or daughter who is our student–athlete. Parenting and coaching, while difficult at times, can also be very rewarding. By establishing a clear line of communication, we can provide a greater athletic experience for the student – athlete. As a parent, when your child becomes involved in one of our athletic programs, you have the right to understand what is expected of your child and what is expected of you. Also, you have the right to express your expectations of our athletic program.
Communication You Should Expect from the Coach
- Coaching philosophy
- Team goals
- Expectations for the season
- Schedule of contests
- Practice schedule and locations
- Team rules
- Procedures when injured
- Discipline resulting in denial of participation
- Criteria for making the team
Communication a Coach Should Expect from Parents
- Notification of any scheduled conflicts as far in advance as possible!
- Absences from school due to illness
- Medical conditions or injuries that would interfere or prevent participation (Also contact the Athletic Trainer)
Concerns to Discuss with a Coach
At times you may recognize a change in your child’s behavior. Perhaps it could be associated with athletics. At times it is appropriate to discuss certain issues with your child’s coach such as:
- Decline in school work
- Change in mood or demeanor
- Suspected substance abuse
- Eating disorders
- Extraordinary stress or fatigue associated with athletic participation
- The progress of your child’s sport-specific skills development
Parent/Coach Conferences
Situations will occur when it is necessary for parents and coaches to meet. These conferences are encouraged so that both parties have a clear understanding of the other’s position. When concerns arise, the initial contact should be made by the parent directly to the coach to arrange for a meeting at an agreed time and place. Confronting a coach before or after practice or contest is not appropriate given the fact that these are often emotional times. Meetings such as these are frequently confrontational and rarely solve problems.
These are certain issues that are inappropriate to discuss with a coach:
- Playing time
- Team strategy
- Play calling
- Other student-athletes
If further communication is necessary, the next step is to contact the Director of Athletics to arrange for a meeting to discuss the situation. The coach may or may not be asked to attend.
